Top firms to unveil innovative building materials

DUBAI, September 9, 2017

Leading players in the building and construction materials sector will present innovative and globally leading solutions at the upcoming Windows Doors & Facades exhibition to address new requirements announced by by the Buildings Department at the Dubai Municipality.
 
The new directive prohibits the use of any flammable materials that include paints, packaging materials, adhesives, fixtures used inside buildings and hanging ceilings with low flame ignition resistance.

The announcement is part of the Municipality’s ongoing efforts to develop construction practices through the application of the highest international standards that guarantee security and safety of Dubai’s high-rise residents.

The implementation of the new building code in Dubai ensures a robust and collaborative approach to the building design based on global fire safety engineering and application standards, limiting flame extension rates of internal and external cladding materials, said a statement from DM.

To be held from September 25 to 27, the event will bring together in one place global and regional developers, investors, consultants, architects, contractors and distributors.

The new measures come to play following a number of global and regional blazes which revamped debate on the implementation of fire safety regulations in high-rise towers.
 
"The second edition of the Windows Doors & Facades exhibition will be an ideal opportunity for local developers and contractors to benchmark against global best practice when it comes to fire safety and security solutions," remarked Muhammed Kazi, the exhibition director.

The event will host experts that are dedicated to the development of innovative solutions made to support the industry to adapt and comply with the updated requirements of the Dubai building code, stated Kazi.
 
"The industry’s only dedicated platform in the region will host educational seminars to raise awareness around fire risks, in addition to the nature and characteristics of associated combustible products," he added.

Industry experts will conduct workshops covering the anticipation of behaviour of materials and structure, including how fires originate, spread and how it can be controlled and extinguished.
 
The showcased solutions at Windows Doors & Facades 2017 address fire safety from a “whole building” perspective.

The recommended engineering approach to fire safety and security analyse and assess designs using modern tools, methodologies and performance criteria, that are in line with the goals and objectives set by Dubai’s building code.
 
Umur Duymaz, the general manager at Orgadata Middle East, said: “The application of fire safety engineering to the building design requires qualitative and quantitative analysis, followed by the assessment against the requirements presented in Dubai’s updated building code."
