UAE's climate change ministry moves into new HQ

DUBAI, December 15, 2017

The UAE Ministry of Climate Change and Environment (MOCCAE) has announced that it is moving its headquarters from Abu Hail in Dubai, UAE, to a new state-of-the-art building in Al Ruwayyah 2, on Sunday.

The new eco-friendly headquarters has been designed using sustainable building materials and cutting-edge technologies to promote energy efficiency, in line with international environment safety standards and green building requirements, reported state news agency Wam.

Also energy-saving lighting is being used to illuminate the entire building that features photovoltaic (PV) panels. It is linked to the Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (Dewa) grid to save 10 per cent of the building's energy needs, stated the report.

Taif Mohammad Al Amiri, the director of government communication department at MOCCAE, said that some of the key characteristics of the green headquarters building are its modern architectural design, its adherence to best-in-class sustainability and green building standards optimising energy use, ensuring ease of movement across different departments and sections, and reducing the ministry's environmental footprint.

"Designed to ensure efficient use of electricity, water, and air-conditioning through leveraging eco-friendly building material including sun-insulating surfaces, the building seeks to improve the quality of the indoor and outdoor environment and in doing so preserves the health and safety of the environment as part of the ministry’s social commitment," added Al Amiri.
