Dubai starts implementing new rule on industrial buildings

DUBAI, June 10, 2018

Dubai Municipality said its building department has launched a new initiative for the design and implementation of industrial buildings, as part of the civic body's efforts to facilitate the procedures for its visitors and to support the local market, said a report.

The new system allows the contractor to design and supervise the industrial buildings without the need to appoint a consultant office, which will reflect positively on the speed of implementation, cost of projects, and open the way for the promotion of investments, reported state news agency Wam, citing a top official.

The initiative was welcomed by the local market represented by building owners and contractors, and the municipality has begun to receive applications for building permits for industrial buildings by qualified contractors, said Layali Al Mulla, director of buildings department.

She pointed out that within a short period of launching the initiative, the number of projects has risen to five.

Al Mulla further noted that a specialised team has been formed to follow up on the projects during all stages of the design to the implementation and ensure the safety of construction, thus achieving the goal of the Buildings Department by applying the best global best practices in the construction sector and help reduce the cost for investors and owners.

Fida Al Hammadi, the head of research and building systems section, said the department has already trained the cadres of 20 companies in the field of construction of metal structures.
