Dubai Municipality's buildings department opens
the door for innovation.

Dubai Sustainable Concrete Baseline launched

DUBAI, August 5, 2018

Dubai Municipality's buildings department has introduced the Dubai Sustainable Concrete Baseline following a series of environmental studies on sustainable concrete, in cooperation with a number of concrete factories in the emirate.

The Dubai Sustainable Concrete Baseline is an alternative solution to green concrete requirements and represents the maximum allowable environmental impact of concrete mixtures depending upon an environmental impact assessment study based on the data collected from some of the concrete factories operating in the emirate, said a Wam news agency report.

The new option aims to open the door for innovation and creativity and increases options in the design of concrete mixes and the use of sustainable technologies, said Layali Al Mulla, director of buildings department.

It will also contribute positively to reducing the environmental impact of concrete and bring down the overall cost in general, she said.

Following the study, the list of concrete mixtures of environment friendly cement materials used in the sustainable concrete industry has been updated.

Fida Al Hammadi, director of research and building materials section in the buildings department, said that new services have been provided to enable customers to evaluate their concrete mixtures using the Dubai Sustainable Concrete Baseline and to be approved by the municipality's buildings department.
