Alpha brings latest in fire protection

MANAMA, April 24, 2019

Bahrain-based Alpha Fire Services is showcasing conventional fire protection systems, smoke and natural ventilation systems and aerosol fire suppression systems at the Gulf Construction expo in Bahrain.
Talking about smoke and natural ventilation systems, Tony Lewis, CEO of Alpha Fire Services, said in residential buildings if a fire breaks out in an apartment, it is probable that smoke would enter the common corridor or lobby as the occupants comes out. The smoke control system is designed to ventilate this smoke and to protect the common stairs, to ensure safe occupant escape and clear access for the fire service.
Automatic opening vents (AOVs) on the external wall of the building or in a vertical smoke shaft can be used to ventilate smoke from common areas. In conjunction with both methods, an AOV at the top of the common escape stair needs to be operated simultaneously with AOVs in the affected area.
Aerosol fire suppression systems are used worldwide nowadays, said Lewis. They are environment-friendly and do not cause ozone depletion as chlorofluorocarbons used to do.
Condensed aerosol fire suppression is a particle-based form of fire suppression agent similar to gaseous fire suppression or dry chemical. The aerosol employs a fire extinguishing agent consisting of very fine solid particles and gaseous matter to extinguish fires.
Compared to gaseous suppressants, which emit only gas, and dry chemical suppression agents, which are powder-like particles of a large size (25–150 micrometres), condensed aerosols are defined by NFPA as releasing finely-divided solids of less than 10 micrometres in diameter. The condensed aerosol agent can be delivered by means of mechanical operation, electric operation, or combined electro-mechanical operation.
Alpha Fire Services is committed to the provision of fire safety, security products, installation and maintenance of fire safety, security systems in commercial, industrial, residential buildings and in marine vessels, he added. - TradeArabia News Service
