Abu Dhabi ITC plans over 5,000 parking bays at Al Ain

The Integrated Transport Centre (ITC) of the Abu Dhabi Department of Municipalities and Transport is set to implement Phase Two of the Public Parking Management System (Mawaqif) at Al Ain City starting from March 1.

The plan involves the provision of 5198 surface parking bays at Al Ain Mall area (Othman Ibn Affan Street) and Al Sarouj area (Zayed bin Sultan Street) as part of ITC's efforts to provide innovative parking solutions, streamline the traffic flow and curb disorderly parking.

The new parking sectors to be activated comprise 830 standard parking bays at Al Hosn, 581 standard parking bays at Al Murabaa, 2137 standard parking bays along with 158 premium parking bays at Al Kuwaitat, and 1492 standard parking bays at Al Neyadat, it stated.

These new parking bays are spread over four sectors, the first is Sector 8B (Al Hosn) bordered by Zayed bin Sultan Street to the north and east, Third Street to the west, and Al Ain Oasis to the south.

The second is sector 13 (Al Murabaa)  bordered by Shakhboot bin Sultan Street to the north, Othman Ibn Affan Street to the south, Omar Ibn Al Khattab Street to the east, and Hamza Ibn Abdul Muttalib Street to the west.

The third is Sector 14 (Al Kuwaitat) bordered by Othman Ibn Affan Street to the north, Al Salam Street to the south, Omar Ibn Al Khattab Street to the east, and Zayed bin Sultan Street to the west.
The fourth is Sector 15 (Al Neyadat) bordered by Al Salam Street to the north, Khaled bin Sultan Street to the south, Omar Ibn Al Khattab Street to the east, and Zayed bin Sultan Street to the west.

According to ITC, the opening of these new parking sectors is part of its plan to develop, streamline and manage car parks at Al Ain city, and provide long-term parking solutions. The overall objective is to ensure the smooth flow of traffic and reduce random parking all over the city.

Managed parking bays have multiple traffic, social, economic and environmental benefits such as enabling the optimal use of available parking spaces, eliminating casual parking practices, streamlining traffic movement, improving road safety, easing people daily mobility, and supporting business and tourism in the city, it stated.

It will also shorten the time of searching for parking bays and accordingly add to the convenience of users. It will also encourage people to use public transport, protect the environment from vehicle emissions and maintain the picturesque landscape of Al Ain city and streets, said the statement from ITC.

Furthermore, it will also protect pavements and road furniture, and support sustainable development across the emirate, it added.-TradeArabia News Service
