Saudi non-oil exports surge to $3.17bn

Saudi Arabia's non-oil exports rose to SR11.9 billion ($3.17 billion) for the month of May, up 40 per cent from a year earlier, according to official data.

The non-oil exports stood at SR8.5 billion in May 2009, the Central Department of Statistics and Information (CDSI) said on its website on Saturday.

The main non-oil exports were plastics and petrochemicals, which reached a total of SR7.3 billion, representing 61 per cent of non-oil exports, the data showed.

Asian countries were the main importers, receiving 30 per cent of the non-oil exports in May, followed by fellow Gulf Arab states with 23 per cent.

The UAE led the importers with around SR1.3 billion, followed by China which imported products worth around SR1 billion. – Reuters
