DHL joins Tamkeen career programme

Global logistics company DHL Express, Bahrain has signed an agreement with BDO Jawad Habib to adopt the Tamkeen Career Progression Programme (CPP) as a channel of productivity improvement and career development.

BDO Jawad Habib manages the Tamkeen CPP programme that has been running for over a year and aims to train 6500 Bahrainis.

Bill Todd, general manager, Bahrain Hub, DHL Express and Dr. Ehsan Ghurbal, CPP director at BDO Jawad Habib signed the deal at the DHL headquarters in Muharraq.

As per the agreement, BDO Jawad Habib will assess and enroll 147 Bahraini employees in the CPP from DHL to engage them in the programme. These employees have different roles in DHL from team leaders, ramp agent, sorters, to customer service agents.

The initiative is in line with DHL’s HR strategy of developing talent and Tamkeen's continuous effort to focus on giving Bahrainis access to ongoing world-class training that will result in better career development., Todd noted.

Commenting on the agreement, Dr. Ghurbal said, 'This partnership marks another important milestone for us. Tamkeen with BDO Jawad Habib is devoted to meeting DHL’s outlined requirements and highest international standards.'

'We believe that training and productivity are correlated. Programmes like CPP are designed to systematically develop the knowledge, skills, and attitudes that are required for any organisation to meet its goals,' he observed.

“We are delighted to be involved with the training and development of deserving candidates and look forward to inspiring and guiding them through training as they enhance their professional skills, interact and exchange information.'

'We have witnessed that after completing the training programme, the successful candidates look forward to being rewarded for their efforts through increased job security, higher earnings, and above all a greater sense of satisfaction in the work they undertake. This is our greatest achievement,' Dr Ghurbal added.

The CPP will offer the employees and DHL a combination of technical skills development, and job training.

In addition it will provide HR consultancy, training cost, training coordination and monitoring as well as a subsidy of BD50 ($132.6) for each employee for 12 months after completing the training programmes successfully, he pointed out.

These training programmes will be recommended by BDO Jawad Habib and DHL after completing the Training Needs Analysis process.

Todd expressed his delight stating, 'DHL Express shares a long history with Bahrain, as the only company to win two awards from the Ministry of Labour in 2007 for its exemplary efforts in the area of Bahrainisation, this agreement further confirms our commitment to the Bahraini workforce.'

“We have a strong tradition of people development here, with many of our managers having started at junior levels and working their way up. Joining up with the Tamkeen CPP is a real ‘win win’ for everyone and provides a superb addition to our existing development programme,” Todd added.

The Tamkeen – CPP has been running for over a year and aims to train 6500 Bahrainis whom their basic salary between BD200 to 400 ($531 to $1061)  in the private sector.

“The CPP represents Tamkeen’s strategy to offer support to Bahrainis at all levels in the workplace, whether jobseekers, working Bahrainis who are seeking better prospects or entrepreneurs,” commented Amal Kooheji, senior manager, Human Capital Development at Tamkeen.
