Dubal honours senior employees

Dubai, November 22, 2009

Dubai Aluminium Company (Dubal), the world’s largest modern aluminium smelter with a captive power station, recently honoured 48 employees, who had joined the company in 1984.

The employees received certificates and gifts from Dubal in appreciation of their 25 years of dedicated service to the company.

This year’s ceremony was the sixth of its kind, having been instituted in 2004 coincident with the 25th anniversary of Dubal’s commissioning in 1979. To date, a total of 364 employees have achieved their quarter century service milestone. Moreover, some 41 people celebrate 30 years’ service at Dubal this year, coincident with the company’s 30th anniversary.

“Dubal’s growth, development and sustained success throughout the years has been achieved largely as a result of our dedicated workforce – without whose commitment and willingness to go that extra mile Dubal may not have achieved its current standing as a truly global brand,” stated Abdulla J M Kalban, president and CEO, Dubal.

“In 1984, when each of these award recipients joined Dubal, our company comprised just three potlines that, together, produced approximately 135,000 metric tonnes of hot aluminium each year,” he said.

“Over the years, these individuals have contributed directly to a series of successive expansions that have collectively increased Dubal’s facilities to eight potlines with a current production capacity of more than 980,000 metric tonnes a year. That’s an increase of about 626 per cent in just a quarter of a century.”

Established to diversify Dubai’s economy by adding value to its oil-rich energy resources, Dubal has become the Emirates’ industrial flagship.-TradeArabia News Service
