Huawei showcases 'borderless classrooms'

Dubai, October 22, 2013

A pilot e-Classroom programme has been deployed at the the Higher Colleges of Technology (HCT) to increase knowledge sharing and offer an enhanced student learning experience.

Leading global ICT solutions provider Huawei’s e-Classroom programme provides a host of new digital tools for creating a more interactive learning environment, said a statement.

It extends the concept of ‘borderless classrooms’ and addresses the strategic challenges faced by educational institutions in the domain of distance learning as well as the managing and sharing knowledge resources across multiple classrooms and campuses, it said.

The pilot programme seeks to elevate HCT students’ classroom learning experiences, in particular, through support for real-time interactions via HD audio and video tools, convenient course recording and streaming, interactive e-whiteboards, and more immersive device applications.

“New information technologies are changing the way that classes are being taught, where they are being hosted, and the desire of both students and faculty for more flexible and creative learning environments,” said Dong Wu, president of Huawei Enterprise Middle East.

“Through the years Huawei and HCT have pioneered a variety of programmes giving young people greater access to educational opportunities. By piloting this latest e-Classroom programme, we are improving the ways in which knowledge can be shared not only within the classroom, but across geographic borders linking to the wider global community.”

The programme was announced during a live demo hosted during the Gitex Technology Week, where visitors could sit in on a live class being held at the HCT Abu Dhabi Men’s College.

Following a successful pilot programme at the college, plans are already in place to deploy an extended network connecting other campuses including the HCT Ras Al Khaimah Colleges.

Dr Tayeb Kamali, vice chancellor of HCT, said: “It is a wonderful opportunity for our students in Abu Dhabi to participate in this real-time class broadcast from Dubai as they witness and experience the possibilities of technological advances in education, as part of HCT’s Learning by Doing philosophy.

“It also demonstrates how HCT is at the forefront of technology integration in its classrooms, allowing students to engage in ‘anywhere, anytime’ learning. This innovation in teaching shows how technology can be used to share ideas and teaching methods, and importantly to engage students in their learning experience,” he added. - TradeArabia News Service
