40 Jordanian students showcase apps, games

Amman, March 3, 2014

The Microsoft Innovation Center (MIC) in Jordan gave 40 final year students and fresh graduates from public and private Jordanian universities an opportunity to showcase applications and games developed by them.

The applications and games were developed for the Windows 8 Store during MIC’s Windows 8 Apps Demo, which took place at the Founder Theater in the Royal Scientific Society recently.

The participants joined a two and a half month MIC Internship Program, which comprised technical sessions, self-learning modules and mentorship, as well as hosted professional ICT instructors who delivered training on designing and managing apps and games that will be published on the Windows 8 Store.

The training workshops were geared towards honing the interns’ technical skills, in addition to publishing developed apps on the Windows 8 Store.

At the end of the programme, the top three winners were selected by a judging panel based on an evaluation process that determined the most innovative and efficient apps.

The winners included Zainab Al-Haidary and Ahmad Abbad from the German Jordanian University, as well as Ghada Abu Yahya from the University of Jordan, all of whom developed apps within the health, events management and real estate sectors.

Hussein Malhas, Microsoft Jordan country manager, said: “The programme allowed the participants to acquire technical programming skills that enhance their employability prospects. They also gained interpersonal skills, as well as a set of tools that cover presentations and project marketing strategies, among others, all of which will significantly help them upon entering the job market.”

It was organised in collaboration with Nokia Jordan and Oasis500. The top three interns were presented with Nokia Lumia 1020 smartphones and were offered the chance to take part in Oasis500’s entrepreneurship training. - TradeArabia News Service
