Manama, March 17, 2014

Bahrainisation levels have seen an impressive growth in both public and private sectors of the kingdom, a minister said.

Labour Minister and Labour Market Regulatory Authority (LMRA) chairman Jameel Humaidan revealed a rise of 3.9 per cent yesterday, said a report in the Gulf Daily News (GDN), our sister publication.

The total number of Bahraini workers rose to 152,473 in the fourth quarter of last year, up from 146,739 in the same period in 2012, he said.

The minister announced the figures as LMRA issued labour market indices for the fourth quarter of last year.

The average salary for Bahraini citizens increased by 2.2 per cent to BD502 ($1,302) in the fourth quarter of last year, compared to BD491 in the same period of the previous year. It reached BD647 in the public sector.

The total number of work permits for expatriates dropped by 14.5 per cent to 24,649 in the fourth quarter of last year, compared to 28,814 in the same period of the previous year, following a comprehensive system setting a cap on workers in each sector and clampdown on unjustified work permits and commercial registers, the minister said. - TradeArabia News Service
