UCB chooses cloud-based wi-fi

University College of Bahrain (UCB) has upgraded its campus wi-fi to a cloud- managed wi-fi from Cisco Meraki.

The project also included upgrading its wired network across the entire campus which was completed in less than a month by Kanoo IT, a division of the E.K. Kanoo group of companies, a statement said.

The upgrade allows students and staff access to networks through their desktop, laptop, tablet or mobile devices at improved speeds. This includes giving students full access to the university’s suite of online resources such as Google apps for education, ‘OpenClass’, ‘Coursesmart’ and ‘Grammarly’ amongst others, it said.

Sheikh Abdulla Khalid Al-Khalifa, executive director for technology and innovation, said: “Deployment of Cisco Meraki cloud wi-fi in UCB will prove beneficial for both wireless users and IT admin team since it provides high density coverage across the campus. Kanoo IT has taken the lead role of a seasoned integrator to implement a secure, cost effective, scalable and easy to manage cloud managed Wi-Fi solutions.”

The new network will be available for students and faculty at a pre-launch this week, the statement said. – TradeArabia News Service
