160 companies participate in Careers UAE

DUBAI, April 30, 2015

Careers UAE 2015, a major recruitment platform open exclusively for UAE nationals and HR practitioners, concluded today (April 30) with participation from more than 160 of the UAE’s leading private and public sector companies.

Among the projected 18,000 Emirati graduates and job seekers at the 15th edition of the event were Mohammed Masood Al Khatheeri, 19, and Mohammed Bakhamis, 23. Classmates on a Logistics Engineering course at the Higher College of Technology in Abu Dhabi, the pair are among thousands of well-educated students looking to take their specialist skills to the professional workforce.

“I’m hoping to find a suitable job which doesn’t clash with my studies,” said Al Khatheeri. “I’ve spent the day asking about various jobs and salary packages at lots of companies including DP World, which is a good fit with my qualifications. I’m from Abu Dhabi, so I’d like to work for Adnoc; I met with them today and filled in the registration forms. I’m not too far into my studies and I still have a lot of time to find a job but it’s important to get in front of companies and show you are confident, eager and interested in your future career.”

Bakhamis added: “I study in the evening so I’m trying to find a day job that means I can continue my nightly studies. Like most people I came to Careers UAE to find a job, collect relevant brochures and learn about as many companies as possible. It’s great to communicate with all the people here and see what the market has to offer – it helps you plan for the future.”

Planning for the future is a top priority for Marwan Abdulla Mohammad, Manager of Talent Acquisition at Emirates Global Aluminium (EGA) - a company established in 2013 following a merger between Dubai Aluminium (Dubal) and Emirates Aluminium (Emal). Now one of the leading smelters in the global market, Emal provides its product to the local market and over 45 countries worldwide.

“Our participation in Careers UAE provides more than 340 job opportunities for UAE nationals,” said Mohammad. “We view this fair one of the major databanks to tap into the market and find high-flyer UAE nationals with the objective and ability to work in heavy industry. Our employees need the right attitude and business thinking, while our challenge is to identify potential employees who can have an impact on the business and contribute to the wider UAE society.”

“Our nationalisation strategy is one of the company’s main development pillars,” added Mohammad. “We target universities for graduates proficient in technical engineering and administration and deliver dedicated programmes to embed graduates in the company and build future leaders.

“Part of that strategy is leveraging recruitment platforms such as Careers UAE, where we utilise online registration live on our stand. We also conduct on-the-spot interviews for graduates, engineers and high-flyers, and book leading candidates in for panel interview appointments and other HR-related aspects after the event to move the process forward.”

According to recent research by LinkedIn, 61 per cent of Mena-based students use its professional network to research companies, while only 27 per cent actively search for jobs. With Internet usage and social media proliferation rates among the world’s highest, the UAE’s digital-savvy job seekers were out in force at Careers UAE 2015.

“I found out about Careers UAE through the event website and on social media – I follow it on Twitter. I did some research online before the fair started because I’m looking to find a great job in HR and I knew the competition would be strong,” said Khalifa Al Menhali, 19, a high school graduate.

“I’ve given my CV to lots of companies and held personal meetings with Abu Dhabi Media, Majid Al Futtaim and several banks including Emirates NBD and National Bank of Abu Dhabi - now I have to wait and see.” – TradeArabia News Service
