UAE's innovators to showcase projects at Abu Dhabi show

ABU DHABI, February 10, 2016

The Abu Dhabi Technology Development Committee (TDC) has called on UAE innovators to showcase projects at an upcoming show in the emirate.

The third edition of the Innovator Show will take place on March 3 and 4 at the Corniche-East Plaza in Abu Dhabi, UAE.

It is a part of TDC’s efforts to drive human capital in the science and technology industries, and will feature exciting workshops, demonstrations and homemade projects that celebrate the growing culture of innovation in the UAE.

The projects featured at the Innovator Show will cover a wide spectrum of disciplines including art and design, automotive, mechanics and digital fabrication, robotics and electronics, aerospace, and sustainability and life sciences.

The event is open to anyone interested in displaying their work, sharing ideas and networking with fellow enthusiasts, said a statement.

The participants can be an individual, a special interest group, a hobbyist or an academic institution, it said.

Majid Al Mail, senior manager and head of the Innovator Programme, said: “The Innovator Show is aimed at celebrating the growing innovation talent that exists in the UAE. Through the event, we aim to fuel collaboration and to challenge others to create and innovate.

"The event provides a platform for UAE innovators to showcase their creations to the community and connect with like-minded individuals in an interactive format.

“This show is a must-visit event for the UAE community, featuring inspiring projects and innovations created by UAE residents of various ages and skillsets. We encourage all budding innovators to sign up and share their inspiring ideas.”

TDC’s Innovator Programme also includes the Innovator Space, an open-access space open in Al Zeina – Al Raha Beach, where amateurs and professional makers, entrepreneurs and artists can access industrial grade equipment, training classes and hands-on mentorship from expert staff to build out of metal, wood, plastics, electronics and textiles.

It has been designed and operated in partnership with TechShop, the leading operator of “makers spaces” in the US and globally.

Selected participants who qualify to showcase their work at the show will have free access to Innovator Space to refine their innovations during the month of February.

They will also have the opportunity to benefit from one of six development funds, judged by an expert panel and based on criteria including originality, visitor interactivity, creativity and social impact.

There will also be a “The People’s Choice Fund” voted for by attendees of the show, said the statement.

The recipients of each fund will be awarded Dh10,000 ($2,721.98) as well as receiving guidance and support from the Innovator Space team after the event, it added. - TradeArabia News Service
