Dr Mohamed Abou-Khousa

Khalifa University faculty member wins top honour

ABU DHABI, August 31, 2018

A faculty member of Khalifa University, a science-focused university in Abu Dhabi, UAE has been bestowed the IEEE Instrumentation and Measurement (I&M) Society’s prestigious 2017 Outstanding Young Engineer Award.
 
Dr Mohamed Abou-Khousa, assistant professor of Electrical and Computer Engineering, was recently presented the award at IEEE International Instrumentation and Measurement Technology Conference (I2MTC 2018), which took place in Houston in the US state of Texas.
 
Dr Abou-Khousa received this award for his outstanding contributions to the development of microwave/millimetre wave instruments and sensors for the industrial, scientific, and medical applications. He wins the award because he meets the two key eligibility criteria, which state that the award nominee must not have reached their 39th birthday and must be an I&M member at the time of nomination.
 
The I&M Outstanding Young Engineer Award recognizes an outstanding young I&M member who has distinguished him/herself through achievements, which are technical, of exemplary service to the I&M Society, or a combination of both, early in their career.
 
Dr Abou-Khousa has been actively involved in various multidisciplinary research and development projects sponsored by industry and government agencies. These projects have yielded state-of-the art sensing systems and technologies to a wide range of industries including aerospace, biomedical, as well as oil and gas.
 
A faculty member specializing in hazardous environment instrumentation, intrinsic safety systems, material characterization, nondestructive testing, smart sensors, and adaptive signal processing, Dr Abou-Khousa has developed several innovative inspection devices and imaging systems.
 
He has been actively involved in various multidisciplinary research and development projects sponsored by industry and government agencies.
