Taif Season 'helping to create jobs and investment opportunities'

TAIF, August 1, 2019

The first edition of Taif Season, part of the 'Saudi Seasons' tourism initiative, is helping create around 15,000 jobs in the market, according to the Saudi Commission for Tourism and National Heritage (SCTH).

The tourism festival, which commenced on August 1, will help create seasonal jobs and investment opportunities for entrepreneurs, small and medium enterprises (SMEs) and young people in the region, the tourism authority said.

The 30-day event will throw the spotlight on Taif’s special characteristics as the ‘Arab Summer Resort’ destination of choice, positioning it as an international centre for tourism, one of the most important industries for the national economy.

The launch of Taif Season is in alignment with the Saudi Vision 2030 objectives to diversify the national economy and transform the tourism and hospitality sector. This is part of efforts to improve quality of life, increase internal spending on tourism, cultural and recreational activities, and contribute to the generation of career and investment opportunities for entrepreneurs and SME's.

SMEs account for 22 per cent of the GDP in Saudi Arabia, the second-biggest contributor to the GDP after the oil and gas sector, and make up well over 90 per cent of private-sector businesses in the kingdom. The Vision 2030 transformation programme aims to increase SME contribution to GDP to 35 per cent by 2030, helping to create employment opportunities for the national workforce and drive innovation and entrepreneurship. - TradeArabia News Service
