Jordan buys Ukrainian wheat
Amman

Jordan bought 100,000 tonnes of Ukrainian wheat at $396 a tonne, cost and freight, in a tender, an official said on Wednesday.

The official said 50,000 tonnes would be shipped in the second half of June and the remainder in the first half of July.

The sale from Geneva-based Russian firm Niblon is almost $100 per tonne less than the country's last purchase in April 17 when they bought 50,000 tonnes of Black Sea origin wheat at $494 a tonne c&f for second half of May shipment.

Traders said the price reflected the drop in wheat prices on futures markets and expectations of much larger crops this summer in key producing countries.

Jordan has increased purchases in recent months following a decision in January to double its wheat stocks to provide a buffer against the dramatic rise in global wheat prices seen since last summer. - Reuters
