Jordan tenders to buy 100,000T hard wheat
Hamburg

Jordan's state grain buyer has issued a tender to purchase 100,000 tonnes of hard wheat from any origin, European traders said on Monday.

The bidding deadline is October 9. Shipment for 50,000 tonnes is in the first half of November and 50,000 tonnes in the second half of November.

In its previous international tender on Aug. 28, Jordan bought 100,000 tonnes of Ukrainian wheat at $369.25 per tonne for October shipment from Ukrainian firm Nibulon.

Major importers, including Jordan, are benefiting from continuing weakness in global grain prices.  At a tender on August 13, Jordan bought 50,000 tonnes of Russian-origin wheat at $361 a tonne.

Jordan has been making regular wheat purchases this year aimed at maintaining local stocks at a comfortable level of around 360,000 tonnes, sufficient for about six months of supplies.

Traders said they believed the country was unlikely to receive substantial wheat supplies this year from neighbouring Syria.

Syria is usually a major wheat exporter but as drought hit its crops this season, it has become an importer, issuing large international purchase tenders for milling wheat for the first time in many years.-Reuters
