DSO in new charity initiative

Dubai, February 15, 2010

Dubai Silicon Oasis, a premier integrated innovations hub for high-tech industries in the region, has launched ‘Dubai Passport,’ an initiative of Creative Zone in support of the Rashid Paediatric Therapy Center, within its premises.

‘Dubai Passport’ is a passport-like booklet that will present its holder with special offers and discounts in Dubai and other emirates at over 52 outlets comprising F&B, retail, entertainment and pharmacies, said a DSO statement.

Under the scheme, DSO will promote the passport among the companies and employees operating at the technology park and the funds raised will contribute to the center’s mission to provide high quality, integrated education services and therapies for children with special needs.

The launch ceremony was held in the presence of Dr Mohammed Al Zarouni, vice-chairman and CEO of Dubai Silicon Oasis Authority (DSOA), and Ahmad Hashim Khoury, founder of Rashid Paediatric Centre. Children from the Rashid Paediatric Therapy Center entertained the audience with artistic performances.

Commenting on the initiative, Dr Zarouni said: 'We are pleased to support the Rashid Paediatric Therapy Center whose noble mission extends to supporting the disabled. In contributing to this campaign, DSOA hopes to reach out to the children at this dedicated center and assist them in receiving what is rightfully theirs in terms of education and therapy.'

'We also encourage all organizations to initiate similar activities among their employees that will lead to the enhancement of the community as a whole,' he added.

Dr Al Zarouni kicked off the campaign by buying the first Dubai Passport himself. The event concluded with DSOA and the Rashid Paediatric Therapy Center exchanging mementos.

Ahmad Hashim Khoury described the Dubai Passport concept as a special humanitarian and marketing initiative that aims to support the center’s budget, allowing it to carry out the charity work for people with special needs in the UAE.

Dr Zuhair Abdel Rahim Maimani, general manager for Creative Zone, said the campaign aims to support important causes such as offering financial, emotional and social support to people with special needs.

'It also offers the tourism, entertainment and commercial sectors of Dubai to participate in this initiative by offering benefits to consumers through special discounts,' he added.

In line with its dedication towards corporate social responsibility initiatives, DSOA has been actively supporting causes and organized diverse activities such as a health awareness campaigns, blood donation drives, and seminar on H1N1.
