Healthcare options focus of Bahrain expo

Manama, January 13, 2011

Chinese medicine, Ayurvedic treatments and other alternative healthcare options are some of the features of an exhibition that has opened in Bahrain.

The first Health and Wellness Expo is being held at the Bahrain International Exhibition and Convention Centre (BIEC) under the patronage of Health Minister Dr Faisal Al Hamer until tomorrow.

Dr Al Hamer and Industry and Commerce Minister Dr Hassan Fakhro opened the expo and toured the 65 international and regional exhibitors.

Participating countries include Bahrain, Saudi Arabia, India, Thailand and Cyprus.

The Health and Wellness Expo 2011 focuses on healthy living, nutrition, relaxation, spas, fitness and alternative medicines.

It showcases treatments for the hair, skin and body, counselling services, weight-loss programmes, Chinese medicine, Ayurvedic treatments, spas and hospital services.

The Health Ministry has a large stand showcasing its emergency services, school health section and various healthy lifestyle programmes.

The expo aims to serve as a platform and networking opportunity for companies and enable them to gain knowledge, practice and advice from visiting experts.

Dr Al Hamer praised the organisers for holding the first exhibition of its kind in Bahrain.

He said it was important to hold such events because it was an opportunity for members of the public and industry leaders to be aware of the different types of health care available in Bahrain, the region and beyond.

'Being an institution that provides healthcare to the public according to the constitution, we need to expand beyond our borders and collaborate with partners, so that people can feel safe and have the opportunity to be treated here,' said Dr Al Hamer.

'Promoting healthy lifestyles is also extremely important, it's not just about healthy eating, it's also exercise and feeling positive and all these things really matter.'

The annual event includes free public talks that are organised by the Bahrain Meditation Centre for Self Development (BMC) and held at the BIEC.

Meditation teacher Charlie Hogg from Australia spoke last night on The Gentle Art of Relationships.

Brahma Kumaris World Spiritual University European and Middle East director BK Jayanti from the UK delivered a presentation on How Consciousness Shapes our Reality.

Two other free public talks will be presented between 7pm and 9pm tonight.

The first talk on How to Keep Calm Amidst Chaos will be delivered by Ken O'Donnell, who is a Brazil-based international consultant in organisational quality, development and strategic planning.

Meditator of over 75 years and internationally acknowledged teacher, leader and mentor Dadi Janki from India will present the second lecture 'Feeling Great - No Matter What'.

Another highlight of the expo is a meditation room where teachers from the BMC lead visitors through a meditation experience every half an hour.

The expo is organised by the Bahrain Exhibition and Convention Authority with the support of the Health Ministry, Industry and Commerce Ministry and the Bahrain Chamber of Commerce and Industry.

Participating partners include Golden Trust and the BMC.

The event is free and open to the public from 10am to 1pm and 4pm to 9pm.-TradeArabia News Service
