DHA unveils roll out plan for health insurance

Dubai, December 19, 2013

The Dubai Health Authority (DHA) held a crucial meeting with insurance companies for the successful implementation of the health insurance scheme, which has been made mandatory in the emirate.

The DHA discussed both the roll-out process and the procedure for procuring a health insurance permit, which is compulsory for all those companies that want to provide health insurance services in the emirate.

Speaking at the meeting, Essa Al Maidoor, director-general of the DHA, said: “Our aim is to provide everyone in Dubai with access to essential health cover and to empower them by providing them with the right to choose their health provider within the private or public sector.”

“The scheme will provide a significant boost to the health insurance industry, as it will attract investment in the medical sector and also generate healthy competition between providers as well as health facilities.”

Al Maidoor also called upon all healthcare providers to obtain their health insurance permits inorder to become eligible for providing insurance cover in Dubai.

“In order to ensure we have the very best insurance companies on board, the DHA has laid out a set of criterions that all insurance companies need to adhere to, so that they are eligible to receive a health insurance permit,” he added. - TradeArabia News Service
