Waste management solutions on show at EcoWaste
Abu Dhabi, January 7, 2014
Local and international companies will showcase waste management technologies and solutions at the inaugural EcoWaste 2014 event.
The dedicated waste management and recycling event in the Middle East will be held in Abu Dhabi from January 20 to 22.
Key players will come together to find timely solutions to address the sustainable disposal and recycling of waste, said a statement.
The Abu Dhabi Sustainability Group (ADSG), a membership organisation to promote sustainability management in the emirate, will highlight and raise awareness about waste management through its speakers and sessions, it said.
ADSG’s Huda Al Houqani said: "One of the key focus areas identified by ADSG members is waste management - and it is something that we have been working on with our members and stakeholders for the last two years.”
Other organisations to take part in the event include Sharjah-based waste management firm Bee’ah, besides firms from Germany, Switzerland and Finland, which will showcase some of their latest and most innovative technologies.
Henning Nørgaard, territory manager at Eldan Recycling, a Denmark-based recycling equipment supplier, pointed out that fast construction growth, an increasing manufacturing base and a booming service sector, has opened up new opportunities for the recycling industry in the UAE.
“We have noticed a fast increase in requests from the UAE since we sold our first tire recycling plant to the region back in 2004. Recent inquiries to Eldan Recycling show that many local players have realised that waste is not worthless,” he said.
The Center of Waste Management – Abu Dhabi (CWM), the lead agency responsible for controlling and co-ordinating waste management activities, policies, strategies and contractual systems through the emirate, has partnered with Masdar to host EcoWaste 2014. - TradeArabia News Service
