Largest future energy summit set to open

Abu Dhabi, January 19, 2014

The largest World Future Energy Summit, with attendees from over 170 countries, is set to open tomorrow (January 20) in Abu Dhabi.

As part of the Abu Dhabi Sustainability Week, the three-day summit will see as many as 125 speakers address delegates on topics such as waste-to-energy, natural gas and the evolving energy mix, energy efficiency, and renewables technology innovation.

The summit is co-located with the second International Water Summit and the inaugural EcoWaste exhibition, hosted by Masdar, Abu Dhabi’s renewable energy company.

More than 900 exhibiting companies will take part in WFES, IWS and  EcoWaste, with more than 200 new projects to be unveiled at the three shows.

The new and expanded exhibition features at WFES this year include the Project and Finance Village, showcasing over 20 renewable energy projects from the region and beyond; the Sustainable Living Expo, including an actual-size home and hotel suite prototype displaying energy- and water-efficient products; and the Green Careers Fair, promoting employment opportunities and providing career advice and guidance in the renewable energies and sustainability sector.

Naji El Haddad, show director, said: “Whether it’s to win business, invest, network or simply learn more about the industry, attendees at the seventh WFES will have an unrivalled opportunity to participate in the rapidly evolving renewable energy and sustainable development sector, and to contribute to a rich debate on our shared energy challenges.

“The commercial opportunities at WFES continue to grow and we are very excited by the response to our Business Matchmaking Programme, a new networking platform that matches selected participants with decision makers to trade or source products.”
