Mafraq Hospital names new surgery chief

Mafraq Hospital, owned and operated by Abu Dhabi Health Services Company (Seha), has appointed Dr Mohamed Baguneid as its new chief of general surgery.

In his new role, Dr Baguneid will manage a department of qualified surgeons who cover the spectrum of surgery including breast surgery, hernia surgery, gallbladder, liver and pancreas as well as colon and stomach.

He will also retain his position as chief of vascular surgery at the hospital and is an expert on vascular strokes, diabetic foot complications, vascular diseases and other disorders including varicose diseases and wound care, as well as clinical education and research in the UAE.

Lee Huntley, CEO, said: “It is a role that Dr Baguneid has more than earned by demonstrating his commitment to enhancing standards, his meticulous approach to research and evidence-based treatment and care, and his leadership skills and talent in building teams and inspiring those he works with.”

Dr Baguneid is also a passionate campaigner on public health issues, including stroke awareness, he said.

He replaces outgoing chief of general surgery Dr Al Fahim, who held the position for seven years.
