Centre offers new approach to tackle obesity

Manama, June 18, 2014

Bahrain-based Dream Body Centre (DBC), a 23-minute weight loss and fitness centre, is introducing a new approach to tackle the growing obesity issue in the kingdom.

The new dance class named “Raqs23!”, which is the first of its kind in the world and developed locally by the DBC, utilises high and low impact exercises to give participants’ an intense total body workout.

A recent study published by The Lancet has shown that the Kingdom of Bahrain is amongst the top countries with the highest increase in obesity from 1980 to 2013, in both males and females.

DBC founder Suhail Algosaibi said: “With 2.1 billion people overweight or obese worldwide, there is now a greater urgency to tackle this problem more than ever.”

“Raqs, which means dance in Arabic, will not only improve fitness levels amongst participants, thus assisting weight loss, but will also help release stress and improve overall well-being,” he added.

The classes are available twice a week exclusively at the Dream Body Centre, which is located at the Bahrain Mall. The centre was established in 2007, and plans are underway to franchise in the Middle East and Asia, a statement said. – TradeArabia News Service
