Qatar entities offer diabetes friendly meals

Doha, July 6, 2014

Qatar-based Action on Diabetes and luxury hotel the W Doha Hotel and Residences have launched a new initiative which will see the hotel provide diabetes friendly meals everyday throughout Ramadan for both Iftar and Sohour.

The meals will be provided in the hotel’s exclusive Ramadan tent, which will run until 8pm daily and will serve diabetes friendly starters, main courses and desserts.

The diabetes friendly meals served in the tent are all approved by Qatar Diabetes Association and will include a variety of tasty, healthy food choices. Diners can easily identify a diabetes friendly meal as they will be clearly labelled with a blue Action on Diabetes circle.

Safak Guvenc, general manager of W Doha Hotel & Residents said: “W Doha is delighted to have partnered with Action on Diabetes in Qatar to support such an important cause. We hope it will encourage more and more people to raise awareness of the disease which negatively affects people all over the world.

“It is brilliant to see the hotel’s staff support this fantastic campaign by offering an array of diabetic friendly dishes. We will continue to support such initiatives throughout the year.”

The partnership with the W hotel falls under the umbrella of a wider Ramadan awareness campaign which was launched 10 days before Ramadan.

The campaign involved Action on Diabetes collaborating with a number of leading organisations across Qatar, including Qatar’s largest supermarket chain, the Al Meera Consumer Goods Company, where they set up screening stations in three of Al Meera’s largest outlets with healthcare professionals on hand to test shoppers and offer advice about healthy fasting.

Herluf Nis Thomsen, senior project manager at Action on Diabetes, said: “I would like to thank the W Doha Hotel and Residences for their support of the Ramadan awareness campaign.”

“Eating healthy meals in Ramadan is advised for everyone, including those at risk of developing diabetes and for those who are living with the condition and I am delighted that W Doha has partnered with us for the Ramadan awareness campaign to raise awareness of this important initiative. The hotel’s assistance will surely help Action on Diabetes continue to tackle one of Qatar’s greatest health challenges,” Thomsen added. – TradeArabia News Service
