Invibio’s spinal rod components offer ‘semi-rigid’ solution

UK, September 25, 2014

Invibio Biomaterials Solutions (Invibio), a leading provider of PEEK-based biomaterial solutions to medical device manufacturers worldwide, is hosting a symposium looking at how PEEK-Optima Spinal Rod components offer a more viable option in comparison to the stiff all-metal constructs and dynamic treatment options.

Invibio believes that its PEEK-Optima Spinal Rod components offer a semi-rigid posterior fixation solution rather than previously used components and methods.
The symposium ‘Eurospine’ will take place at Lyon, France, on October 1.

During the session three leading European surgeons, Dr Thierry Desjardins, Neurosurgeon (Cagnes-Sur-mer, France), Dr Jacques Benezech (Montpellier, France) and Dr Andreas Mavrogenis (Athens, Greece), will present individual clinical findings and discuss their experiences of using PEEK-Optima spinal rods over the last three years.

Gilles Larroque, marketing leader, Invibio, said: “The high stiffness inherent with all-metal constructs are believed to contribute to clinical challenges from rod breakage and screw loosening to accelerated degeneration at adjacent spinal segments which can all negatively impact patient outcomes. PEEK-Optima rods address these challenges and the feedback from the surgeons using these has been positive, and we’re looking forward to presenting at EUROSPINE 2014.”

Dr Thierry Desjardin, neurosurgeon, said: “I have a lot of patients who need one level fixation and I’ve always been frightened to use too rigid a system and to destroy the adjacent levels in the future. To find a device to try to protect the adjacent level is for me very important. I think PEEK Rods can be the alternative and maybe can replace, time after time, the rigid posterior fixation.” – TradeArabia News Service
