Bahrain turns pink in cancer drive

MANAMA, October 4, 2014

Manama's skyline will turn pink every night this month in support of women fighting breast cancer.

Famous landmarks, including the World Trade Centre and the Bahrain Financial Harbour, are taking part in an initiative launched by the Bahrain Cancer Society (BCS), called Manama "the Pink Capital."

Other buildings located in the heart of Manama such as the InterContinental Regency Bahrain, Diplomat Radisson Blu Hotel, Residence and Spa, YBA Kanoo Towers and hotels run by the Elite Hospitality Group will switch their external lights to pink as part of efforts to raise awareness about the life-threatening disease and encourage more women to get regular checks.

'With October being breast cancer awareness month, individuals in Bahrain and all over the world will be working together to raise awareness and funds to help fight a disease that has blighted countless lives across the globe,' BCS treasurer Ahmed Ali Al Nowakhda told the Gulf Daily News, our sister publication.

'This year, the society is recognising the month by launching its 'Manama '“ the Pink Capital' initiative, and our other activities will continue to help people fight this fatal disease.'

The society will also host its annual walkathon on Friday to raise funds for the cause.

The event will kick off from Al Ghous Corniche in Muharraq and will feature several stalls offering educational materials about cancer along with a wide range of products for sale.

All proceeds from the event will go towards efforts to help people battling cancer in Bahrain.

"We are also planning another walkathon in February, which will coincide with the World Cancer Day," added Al Nowakhda.

'This is part of BCS's participation in the worldwide campaign against the killer disease and our main goal is to spread awareness and help patients," he stated.

'No one can fight this disease alone and here is where the society is thankful to all its supporters, sponsors and volunteers and we urge more people to join hands, said Al Nowakhda.

"We urge everyone to undergo regular medical check-ups because early detection helps in the treatment '“ not only cancer, but any such diseases," he added.-TradeArabia News Service
