Woman 6th to die of sickle cell this year in Bahrain

A Bahraini woman who died on March 10 was Bahrain's sixth sickle cell patient to die this year from complications arising from the condition, it has been claimed.

Mother-of-two Fatima Saleh Ebrahim, 26, died in her house in Karranah, said Bahrain Society for Sickle Cell Anaemia Patients Care representative Manahel Mansoor in a report in the Gulf Daily News (GDN), our sister publication.

The others are Hussain Ali, 21, from Dair, Isa Ali Al Mohannadis, 24, from Dair, Abdul Muneer Ashoor, 35, from Duraz, Hussain Al Dakak, 48, from Daih and Ridha Hassan Zindhen, 42, from Jidhafs.

According to figures compiled by the society, 46 patients died last year, 32 in 2013, 47 in 2012, 32 in 2011, 35 in 2010, and 25 in 2009.

The GDN reported in January that a team of US experts visited Bahrain to review sickle cell patient care and would present recommendations to the Health Ministry. - TradeArabia News Service
