Bahrain landmarks switch off for Earth Hour

MANAMA, March 29, 2015

Landmark buildings and businesses across Bahrain took part last night in a global initiative to conserve energy and raise climate change awareness.

Earth Hour, spearheaded by the World Wildlife Fund, encourages participants to turn off all non-essential lights for one hour as a symbol of their commitment to the planet, reported the Gulf Daily News, our sister publication.

Bahrain World Trade Centre, the Electricity and Water Authority, Ahmed Al Fateh Islamic Centre (Grand Mosque), Bahrain International Circuit and Bahrain Financial Harbour all dimmed their exterior lights for an hour between 8.30pm and 9.30pm.

Meanwhile, around 50 members of staff at The Crowne Plaza Bahrain held a candlelight vigil in the hotel's main lobby, while at the Ritz Carlton Bahrain Hotel and Spa, 600 candles were presented to guests as lights in the Thai Lounge went off.

Other activities to mark the event at the Ritz included a fire dance show, special healthy menus and yoga sessions. – TradeArabia News Service
