Bahrain to host major forum on climate change

A major forum will be held in Bahrain next week to discuss the impact of climate change on small islands and the importance of sustainable ecological policy-making.

Bahrain Europe Environment Week opens at the Arab Regional Centre for World Heritage (ARC-WH) in Juffair on Monday (May 25), said a report in the Gulf Daily News (GDN), our sister publicaiton.

Held under the patronage of the Supreme Council for the Environment (SCE), with support from the British Council in Bahrain, Alliance Franaise and the French, German and Italian Embassies, the four-day event will feature keynote speeches from ARC-WH regional director Dr Mounir Bouchenaki and SCE chief executive Dr Mohammed Bin Daina, among others.

Other venues hosting events during the week include the Arabian Gulf University (AGU) and Alliance Franaise building in Isa Town.

Renewable energy programmes, new technology and climate change accords will also be discussed ahead of the 21st session of the Conference of Parties to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change to be held in Paris in December.

Highlights include a seminar called "Climate Change Accord: From Lima to Paris 2015" on Tuesday at the AGU, a talk on "Green Technology and Solutions" on Wednesday at the ARC-WH and the screening of a movie called Climate Change Disruption at Alliance Franaise on Thursday. - TradeArabia News Service
