Manama, June 18, 2008

Bahrain Maritime and Mercantile International (BMMI) has opened an office in Washington DC.

The office, located on Pennsylvania Avenue, is the latest development in the group's US-based operations.

It underlines the excellent progress made by the group in implementing its strategy of geographic expansion.

"The primary purpose of the office is to enhance the business development function of BMMI's contract services and supply operation," contract dervices and supply chief operating officer Robert Smith told the Gulf Daily News, our sister publication.

"In addition, the group can be closer to its core governmental and non-governmental organisation clients as well as to a broad-based business community connected with governmental contracting."

Carla Geday has been appointed to head the new office. Having worked for a number of blue chip international organisations within the Middle East and North Africa region, Geday brings with her extensive experience in government contracting and business development.

"This move will help facilitate our growth plans, show our customer base the seriousness of our intent and allow us to develop and foster long-term relationships within the Washington DC business community," Smith said.
