DuPont marks 206 years of progress, innovation

DuPont recently held colourful celebrations to marked its 206th anniversary. French immigrant EI du Pont de Nemours had founded the company on July 19, 1802, in Wilmington.

DuPont at present has about 60,000 employees, 220 sites and a presence in more than 75 countries. With about 500,000 individual products and more than 400,000 customers, the company has grown to more than $29 billion in revenues.

DuPont is a science company which puts science to work by creating sustainable solutions essential to a better, safer, healthier life for people everywhere. 

In 1802, the company had about 100 employees at one site in the US, 12 customers and one product – refined salt peter.

The earliest reported revenues were from 1804, the first year of black powder sales, at more than $10,000.

'One hundred years ago, DuPont turned its focus to chemicals, materials and energy. Today, DuPont delivers science-based solutions that make real differences in people's lives around the world in areas such as food and nutrition, health care, apparel, safety and security, construction, electronics and transportation,' said Dirk Bosman regional leader DuPont Middle East and Pakistan.

'Look closely at the things around your home and workplace, and chances are, you'll find dozens of items made with DuPont materials,' he explained.

'We are very proud of our company’s reputation and ensure that we continue to build on this success. There is a whole world of opportunities for DuPont in the Middle East and we are actively investing in many development projects here,' Bosman observed.

'Since 2000 there has been tremendous increase in oil prices and resurgence in investment into the infrastructure and into diversifying the economy. We are focused on our local customers and ensure that they are front and centre in everything we do,' he added.

The ability to adapt to change with strong foundation of unending scientific inquiry has enabled DuPont to become one of the world's most innovative companies.

'But, in the face of constant change, innovation and discovery, our core values have remained constant: commitment to safety, health and the environment; high ethical standards; and treating people with respect,' Bosman opined.
