Siemens wins India turbine order
Erlangen (Germany)

Siemens Energy said it has secured an euros 40 million ($56 million) from Indian utility Vadinar Power Company Limited, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Essar Oil Limited, for the supply of four steam turbine generators.

The steam turbines and generators will be installed in a cogeneration plant in Vadinar in Gujarat Province.

The scope of supply to Vadinar Power Company encompasses two steam turbines each rated at 105 megawatts (MW), two 93 MW steam turbines and four generators.

The four SST-600 industrial steam turbines will be manufactured in Brno in the Czech Republic and the generators will be produced in Erfurt, Germany.

In addition, Siemens will supply the entire instrumentation and control equipment, the electrical systems and the auxiliaries.

Commissioning will be conducted from the Siemens location in Vadodara, while the delivery of the steam turbine generators is scheduled for completion by the fall of 2010.

As of early 2011, the coal-fired plant will supply power and steam to the neighboring oil refinery operated by Essar Oil.

"India is a highly dynamic growth market for Siemens products and the demand for efficient energy supply solutions will continue to increase in the future," said Markus Tacke, CEO of the business unit industrial applications, steam turbines, within the Siemens Oil and Gas Division.

"The new order is the fourth placed by Vadinar Power Company for Siemens steam turbine-generators. This expression of trust shows that our products and solutions for refineries meet all of our customers’ demands in terms of safety, reliability and operational readiness."

The Siemens Energy Sector is the world’s leading supplier of a complete spectrum of products, services and solutions for the generation, transmission and distribution of power and for the extraction, conversion and transport of oil and gas.-TradeArabia News Service
