Emal secures gas for power plant from Gasco

Abu Dhabi, August 23, 2009

Emirates Aluminium (Emal) said on Sunday it has secured natural gas supplies from Abu Dhabi Gas Industries (Gasco) for its power plant.

A pipeline connecting Emal's power plant to Gasco will provide reliable and uninterrupted natural gas supply, the official emirates news agency WAM reported without giving details.

Emal is a joint venture between Abu Dhabi government-owned Mubadala and Dubai Alumnium (Dubal).

The gas will be used to supply power for the plant at Taweelah near Abu Dhabi.

Emal is building a 700,000 tonnes a year aluminium smelter and a 2000 MW power plant.
