Stamps to mark Jafza silver jubilee

Dubai, September 20, 2010

The UAE official postal service Emirates Post has issued commemorative stamps to celebrate 25 years of operation of Jebel Ali Free Zone (Jafza).

An ornamental frame, containing stamps and First Day Cover and Souvenir Sheet, was presented by Emirates Post to senior officials of Jafza at a ceremony held to celebrate the free zone's tireless efforts to contribute to the economic growth of Dubai and the UAE.

The presentation was held in the presence of Salma Hareb, CEO, Economic Zones World, Talal Al Hashimi, managing director, Economic Zones World – UAE region, Ibrahim Mohammed Al Janahi, deputy CEO and chief commercial officer of Jafza and Ibrahim bin Karam, chief commercial officer, Emirates Post.

Speaking on the occasion, Al Janahi said the silver jubilee of an organization serves as motivation for further development and to aspire for new horizons.

'The last 25 years have been very significant for Jafza. We are very proud of what we have achieved, and our achievements made us an important part of Dubai’s commerce and a key contributor to the GPD. We are grateful to Emirates Post for immortalizing our success through these beautiful stamps,' he noted.

Jafza is a part of Dubai based, state-owned Economic Zones World, one of the world’s biggest developers of Economic Zones, Logistics and R&D driven Industrial Parks.

'We are delighted to salute Jafza on the occasion of its silver jubilee through these special stamps. We are pleased to continue our tradition of honouring companies like Jafza so that their names and achievements are known locally and internationally. We believe stamps are the best ambassadors of a country,' Bin Karam said.

Jafza is built over an area of 48 sq km and it ranks among the world’s largest and the fastest growing free zones.

Situated between Jebel Ali Port, the world’s 6th largest seaport, and the recently opened Al Maktoum International Airport, the world’s largest cargo airport, Jafza is the only free zone in the world to be located between the two major logistic enablers, said a Jafza statement.

With a six-lane highway Jafza will facilitate the transportation of goods (custom bound) from sea to air in just 40 minutes. Jafza is well positioned to enable its partners the fastest possible access to a market of over 2 billion people in South and West Asia, the CIS and Africa.

In its 25 years of operation, Jafza has posted more than 320 times growth in its number of companies, starting from 19 in 1985 to reach 6,402 in 2009, it added.-TradeArabia News Service
