Esab opens new 'green' facility at Jafza
Dubai, October 20, 2010
Esab Middle East, the leading manufacturer of welding and cutting equipment, has opened its new environmentally friendly facility at Jebel Ali Free Zone (Jafza) south.
The 6,500 sq m facility was built on a 10,800 sq m plot under the guidance of the Middle East Center for Sustainable Development so that its design, construction and sourcing of raw materials adhered with the US Green Building Council under its Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (Leed) programme.
Esab Middle East’s newest facility is amongst the first in the region to secure a Leed Platinum certification - the highest possible environmental certification of any man-made structure.
The Leed programme is an internationally recognized green building certification system that provides third-party verification that a building or community was designed and built using strategies aimed at improving performance across all environmental-related metrics that matter most: energy savings, water efficiency, CO2 emissions reduction, improved indoor environmental quality, and stewardship of resources and sensitivity to their impacts.
“Environment, health and safety issues are top priority to Esab,” said Johan Fransson, managing director, Esab Middle East. “And we are indeed proud to be among the first in the region to have a commercial facility that bears a Platinum certificate from Leed.”
“Our Swedish heritage of reliability, honesty and downright decency, combined with more than 100 years of market-leading propensity for innovation and pioneering way thinking, have steered us to a successful conduct of our business with utmost concern for the health and safety of people and the environment,” he added.
Salma Ali Saif Bin Hareb, CEO, Economic Zones World, and chairman of the board, Dubai Logistics Corridor, who inaugurated the facility, said: “We congratulate Esab Middle East on the new facility and commend them on the Platinum certificate. We at Jafza are guided by a vision for sustainable infrastructure solutions and applaud ESAB’s ongoing effort to provide sustainable and environmentally safe solutions.”
As a purpose-built facility, an added value for its customers is the convenience of finding most of Esab Middle East’s commercial activities such as: warehousing and logistics, equipment demonstration, training and office functions under one environment-friendly roof.
The entire facility employs a solar-powered cooling system with hallow core tubes. For lighting, the facility utilizes natural light and a motion-controlled lighting system which switches on and off automatically.
In addition, it made use of wood that came from recycled materials or from renewable forests. For its water consumption, the facility also has its very own water recycling treatment plant.
Esab has been operating from Jafza for the last six years and within the region for the last 29 years. – TradeArabia News Service
