DP World to take part in ports summit

Abu Dhabi, January 23, 2011

Global port operator DP World will participate at the World Ports & Trade Summit in Abu Dhabi in March.

In association with the ADPC (Abu Dhabi Ports Company), the World Ports & Trade Summit will take place at Adnec from March 28-30.

DP World will exhibit alongside other major terminal operators including Abu Dhabi Terminals, ADPC, RAK Port Authority, Ras Laffan Port and Sharjah Port Authority, a statement said.

Recently, the World Trade Organization raised its trade growth projection for 2010 to 13.5 per cent based on ‘faster than expected recovery' as world merchandise trade rose sharply in the first two quarters of the year.

The projections also reflect the strong growth recorded by the UAE and the region, growth that is continuing to fuel the build and expansion of the region’s ports with $46.5 billion worth of development projects now underway, it said.

As a premium networking platform, the World Ports and Trade Summit will address challenges, shifts and opportunities emerging from the current macro-economic outlook to help provide a clearer picture of the industry’s recovery schedule.

The Summit will also include an international exhibition, hosted tours of ports facilities in the UAE and a carefully designed mix of keynote conference sessions and training workshops.

Jamal Majid Bin Thaniah, group CEO, Dubai World; and Mohammed Sharaf, CEO, DP World will participate as speakers within the main conference programme.

The conference will open with a panel debate chaired by Tim Sebastian, broadcaster and chairman of the Doha Debates, focussing on the ‘World Economy, Trade and Ports’. Additional streams will look at the efficient operation of ports and major freight markets whilst reviewing the commercial impact of current and future legislation.

“We are glad to have DP World on board as they are truly a global player in the world of ports. This also shows our continued commitment to cooperation between our organizations,” said Tony Douglas, chief executive officer, ADPC .

Organised by Turret Media and Seatrade, The World Ports & Trade Summit is held in association with ADPC, and sponsored by Bechtel, Boskalis Westminster Middle East Ltd and DNV.  –TradeArabia News Service
