Aramex eyes automated lockers in Dubai

Aramex, a leading express delivery firm, has announced plans to install automated lockers all around Dubai as part of its digital delivery solution.

Through a smartphone, customers will be able to use these lockers to deliver parcels to someone else in another part of the city, where recipients will receive a mobile notification and a QR code to unlock the locker and pick up their package, said a report.

The plans were unveiled at the ArabNet Digital Summit which gathered the biggest players in digital business from around the globe, said the report.

According to Hassan Mikail, Aramex’s global director, automated lockers will be a huge alternative delivery solution for e-commerce and the next two years will be very exciting for e-commerce and digital products in Mena. The automated lockers will result in a cheaper delivery system and will enable customers to directly ship products purchased online.

Meanwhile, PayFort, the Arab world’s leading online payment gateway and payment solutions provider, released its Arab World Online Payment Report 2014, at the ArabNet Digital Summit 2014.

The report provides in-depth analysis of the state of e-payments and e-commerce in the four markets in which PayFort has predominantly operated in over the past year – the UAE, Saudi Arabia, Egypt, and Kuwait.

Since launching in Dubai, UAE in June 2013, and in its first year of operation, the PayFort network processed over 3 billion UAE dirhams (around $817 million) worth of processing transactions, it said.

“We at PayFort wanted to conclude our successful first year of operation by releasing this in-depth report, which highlights the rapidly changing dynamics of the region’s e-commerce and e-payment industries,” said Omar Soudodi, managing director of PayFort.
