Dubai launches maritime control centre

DUBAI, September 18, 2014

The emirate of Dubai in the UAE is to set up a centre to regulate and settle disputes arising from marine and trade transactions.

The new Emirates Maritime Control Centre will specialise in settling disputes arising from maritime commercial procedures and enhance Dubai’s position as a maritime hub.

Dubai’s Crown Prince Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum gave the go-ahead for the centre while chairing a meeting of Dubai’s Executive Council earlier this week.

Sultan bin Sulayem, CEO of Dubai Ports, Customs and Free Zone Corporation, thanked Sheikh Hamdan for approving the establishment of the centre saying it represents “a main legal foundation for the marine sector in Dubai”.

The centre will handle and settle ships lease contracts, goods transport contracts, sale of used ships, ship building and repairing contracts, insurance and re-insurance policies, problems of marine collisions, marine aid and rescue, and disputes related to the settlement of marine losses. – TradeArabia News Service
