Kacare.... spearheading solar projects in Saudi Arabia.

Saudi Arabia to set up five solar power plants

RIYADH, September 22, 2014

The Saudi government plans to construct solar energy-based power plants in five provinces across the country, said local media reports.

The Saudi Electricity Company (SEC) will be developing these projects in co-ordination with King Abdullah City for Atomic and Renewable Energy (Kacare), reported the Arab News.

Kacare is an independent organisation set up with the fundamental aim of building a sustainable future for Saudi Arabia by developing a substantial alternative energy capacity fully supported by world-class local industries.

The organisation has already received the regulatory approval for the implementation of the plants at Qaisumah, Rafha, Wadi Al Duwasir, Mahd Al Dhahab, and Shororah provinces, stated the report, citing a source.

Last week, Kacare announced plans to produce limited electric power from an old waste dump in Jeddah, said the report.

Kacare and SEC will soon invite bids for the construction of these plants beginning with Mahd Al Dhahab, Madinah region, the report added.
