Dubai to host the 2015 IoTWF

DUBAI, October 29, 2014

Internet of Things World Forum (IoTWF), has announced Dubai as the host of the 2015 edition of the forum.

The announcement was made by John Chambers, CEO and chairman of Cisco, during the closing session of this year’s IoTWF in Chicago, US.

At the second Internet of Things World Forum that took place in Chicago, on October 14 to 16, more than 1,500 attendees and 49 sponsors brought together the best and brightest thinkers, doers, and innovators from business, government, and academia, making it the largest Internet of Things conference in the industry.

The third annual Internet of Things World Forum in Dubai will once again bring together a global IoT community from all industries including manufacturing, transportation, oil and gas, utilities, government, healthcare, sports and entertainment, education and retail. Attendees will contribute first-hand to accelerating how the Internet of Things is changing industries, including cities, worldwide and its impact on the global economy.

HH Shaikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, vice-president and prime minister of the UAE and ruler of Dubai outlined his vision to make Dubai the ‘Smart City of the Future’ in 2013. The goal for Smart Dubai is to improve the quality of life by utilising technology for the establishment of a new reality in the city of Dubai, a different life, and a different development model.

Smart Cities are being fuelled by the Internet of Things, where technology enables governments to help lower costs, improve productivity, increase revenue, and improve citizen benefits for the public and private sector through initiatives such as smart buildings, smart gas and water monitoring, smart parking, and smart waste management.

Ahmad Bin Byat, chairman of the executive committee of Smart Dubai Initiative and the CEO of Dubai Holding, said: “It is an honour that the third annual Internet of Things World Forum will take place in Dubai in 2015. This is an exciting time for Dubai, the UAE and the entire Middle East region as a whole as we adopt sustainable technology solutions for better public safety and security, transportation, buildings, utilities, healthcare and education.  We look forward to welcoming and hosting the IoT community in Dubai in 2015 to once again enhance their understanding of what they can do to advance the Internet of Things, and maximise its benefit for their cities, organisations and the industry as a whole.”

Rabih Dabboussi, general manager, Cisco UAE, said: “Cisco applauds the way the Dubai Government has holistically embraced its Smart City vison. Government and citizen services are already being revolutionised, putting them at the forefront of innovation and driving the initiatives to support this momentous change that will deliver His Royal Highness’ Smart City vision. We are delighted that the Internet of Things World Forum steering committee has chosen Dubai as the host city for our 2015 event. As we enter the era of the Internet of Everything where more people, process, data, and things will make networked connections more relevant and valuable than ever before, enhancing and supporting the technology advancements forward looking nations like the UAE are embracing, is one of Cisco’s foremost goals.” – TradeArabia News Service
