Alba's stand at the BIGS 2015

Alba backs Bahrain International Garden Show

MANAMA, February 27, 2015

Aluminium Bahrain has demonstrated its commitment towards a greener Bahrain by supporting and participating in the ongoing Bahrain International Garden Show (BIGS) 2015.

The five-day show will conclude on March 1 at the Bahrain International Convention and Exhibition Centre.

The theme for this year’s BIGS 2015 emphasises the need for continuous agriculture empowerment through education, training and capacity building, said a estaminet.

Tim Murray, chief executive, said: “Alba’s HRH Princess Sabeeka Oasis demonstrates our success as an industrial plant in sustaining a positive and green environment.

“The Bahrain International Garden Show is one of the most outstanding garden shows in the world and our support for this event is not only to promote a greener Bahrain but also to generate greater awareness towards sustainable development and environment conservation.”

Alba has put up a stand at the show, which highlights the company’s eco-friendly measures and agricultural achievements, and also exhibit the vegetables and fruits grown within the smelter at the Oasis.

The Oasis area extends up to 13 hectares and has over 8,500 trees including many types of fruit trees and an artificial lake, which is one of the largest in Bahrain, said the statement.

It features diverse aquatic life comprising types of fish, turtles and other animals including migratory birds. There is also a small Alba farm in the vicinity, which has horses, deer and goats, it said.

The pride of the Oasis is the two-hectare vegetable garden in which many vegetables and local fruit trees are grown and later distributed to Alba employees on a regular basis, it added. - TradeArabia News Service
