200 Mena angel investors for Bahrain summit

MANAMA, May 10, 2015

More than 200 angel investors and 45 start-ups from the Mena region will come together tomorrow (May 11) for the second Mena Angel Investors Summit 2015 in Bahrain.

Organised by Bahraini angel investor Tenmou in strategic partnership with the Economic Development Board (EDB), the day-long summit is being held at the Four Seasons Hotel Bahrain Bay, reported the Gulf Daily News, our sister publication.

Prominent businessmen, investors and entrepreneurs from Bahrain, Saudi Arabia, the UAE, Lebanon, Morocco, Palestine, Egypt, and Jordan are expected to discuss deal-flow, best practices and raise awareness related to angel investment.

Tenmou chairman Sami Jalal said the inaugural event last year saw four start-ups receive around $2 million in funding from regional and international investors.

"This has resulted in a 30 per cent increase in the number of participants taking part in the pitch process this year," he said.

Tenmou chief executive Hassan Haider said the organisation's mission was "to support angel investors to foster the next generation of innovative companies" and spur the development of the angel investor ecosystem.

"We look forward to the pitch process which is always the highlight of the summit."

The EDB said as the strategic partner of the summit for the second consecutive year, it supports the event's role in acting as a platform to raise awareness about angel investment and allowing entrepreneurs to explore new areas of funding and networking.

Established with a start-up capital of $2.7 million, Tenmou invests an average of $53,000 for a stake of 20 per cent in each project that meets its criteria, and provides a three-month mentorship period at no cost to the entrepreneurs. – TradeArabia News Service
