Abu Dhabi Ports ..... new mobile cranes to facilitate faster and efficient work

Abu Dhabi Ports acquires new mobile harbour cranes

ABU DHABI, May 13, 2015

Abu Dhabi Ports has received the delivery of two new mobile harbour cranes which will be used to handle the increasing volumes of general cargo, faster and more efficiently.

The new cranes are part of an ongoing upgrade to all of the general cargo handling equipment in Khalifa, Zayed and Musaffah Ports, said a statement by the company.

The new cranes have been supplied by Liebherr and have been produced in Austria. They are capable of lifting 65 tonnes, and will complement Abu Dhabi Ports’ existing cranes, which are capable of lifting loads of up to 100 tonnes, it added.

The new cranes were shipped to Zayed Port from Western Europe. Specialist engineers from Liebherr flew over to work along with the Zayed Port engineering team in order to assemble and commission the high tech equipment, a process which took around a month to complete.

The assembly time also served as a familiarisation period for Abu Dhabi Ports’ staff.  The cranes are now fully operational and the ports’ engineers are fully trained on the maintenance requirements of the new equipment, further added a statement.

Gary Lemke, executive vice president of Abu Dhabi Ports, said:  “General cargo is a growing sector for our ports, covering everything from grain to animal feeds, to concrete and building sand, our general cargo volumes grew by 37 per cent last year and we expect this growth to continue.”

“These new cranes will increase our productivity levels, enable us to improve our operational processes and ensure that we continue to meet and exceed the growing needs of our customers,” he added. – TradeArabia News Service
