Alba, union reach accord on allowance

MANAMA, May 27, 2015

Aluminium Bahrain (Alba) management and Alba Labour Union have reached an agreement on a dispute related to an allowance.

As part of the agreement, it was decided that the BD20 ($52.68) allowance will be granted for year 2015 consistent with prior practice, the company said.

It was also agreed to develop joint recommendations over the next six months to help the company manage cost challenges facing the aluminium industry, it said.

The agreement will be submitted to the Alba board for approval on June 10.

Commenting on the agreement, Alba chairman Shaikh Daij Bin Salman Al Khalifa said: “We are pleased to find common ground with the Alba Labour Union on this subject. We look forward to working with the Union and developing ideas that will sustain Alba for future generations.”

Alba Labour Union chairman Ali Bin Ali said: “We are happy to have reached an agreement with the company on the BD20 allowance.  I would like to thank the Alba chairman, Board of Directors and the management for their constant support and listening to the concerns of the Alba workers.  We have a long history of supporting the company and, I am confident that working together with the management, we will find ways to improve the performance of the company.” - TradeArabia News Service
