DP World launches maritime training courses

DUBAI, June 8, 2015

DP World Institute, the training arm of the global marine terminals operator, has launched external courses for the global maritime industry.

Professionals across the shipping and ports sector can enrol two in two courses: Diploma in Container Terminal Management and the Advanced Trainers’ and Assessor Programme.

Candidates can now join the Diploma in Container Terminal Management, which starts on September 28, to obtain specialist technical and management qualifications via mixed learning media.

The diploma programme was recently enhanced and won the 'Best Implementation of Digital Learning' award from Terrapin, a business training company, while being shortlisted in two other ME Training and Development Awards categories over the last couple of years.

The Advanced Trainer and Assessor Programme (ATAP) is a comprehensive training system for use in terminals to build local training capability. Participants are given an understanding of training standards and assessment for equipment used in terminal operations from quay cranes and rail mounted gantry cranes (RMG’s) to reach stackers, straddle carriers, forklifts and other machinery.

Sultan Ahmed Bin Sulayem, chairman of DP World, said: "In recent years we have seen an increasing number of requests to participate in our programmes from organisations outside DP World. We are delighted now to offer these courses at our centre of excellence, the DP World Institute, to provide training and development beyond our worldwide network of terminals.”

“The key asset of any organisation is the quality of its people and the continuous development of employees is a key strategic priority for us as part of our drive to ensure we are a sustainable business for the long term.

“We know that many other businesses in the sector share these views so it is a logical evolution of our own training programmes to now offer them to others. The move is also part of our commitment of contributing to the communities in which we operate and enabling a sustainable future for the global supply chain,” he added. – TradeArabia News Service
