Smart logistics management 'will help cut food business costs'

ABU DHABI, October 26, 2015

Massar Solutions, a leader in vehicle rental, fleet management and supply chain solutions, has estimated that food businesses can achieve a 21 per cent reduction in operating costs through smart logistics management.

Ahead of Gulfood Manufacturing, Qusai Kankazar, chief operations officer and deputy chief executive officer, said: “Advanced telematics and mobile tracking systems are the biggest game changer for the food logistics sector and have become a ‘must have’ technology for those looking to increase their profit margins and market share in the industry.

"The technology has proven itself to be highly effective in maximising fleet productivity and utilisation rates, which in turn helps optimize efficiency and increase profitability.”

Massar Solutions is set to showcase its innovative supply chain solutions and mobile tracking and telematics systems at Gulf Food Manufacturing, the region's largest sector specific trade show for the F&B manufacturing, processing and packaging industry.

The three-day event starts tomorrow (October 27) at Dubai World Trade Centre.

According to the Alpen Capital Food Industry Report 2015, backed by encouraging macroeconomic drivers, food consumption in the GCC is expected to grow at a 3.5 per cent CAGR between 2014 and 2019 to reach 51.9 million metric tonnes (MT).

The food consumption in the UAE alone is set to witness 4.8 per cent CAGR, the fastest across the GCC.

“There is significant scope to increase the future profitability of the entire food value chain in the Gulf.  Smart logistics solutions, which cover real-time data collection and driver training, can offer numerous advantages," said Kankazar.

"The most obvious ones are accelerating customer service levels, reducing operating costs, maximizing driver and cargo safety optimizing routing and prolonging the lifespan of the fleet,” he said.

According to recent findings, between 20-30 per cent of the trucks and delivery wagons supplying food stuff are needed to be equipped with the telematics technology. - TradeArabia News Service
