Abu Dhabi Ports launches truck drivers safety campaign

ABU DHABI, April 24, 2016

Abu Dhabi Ports, the master developer, operator and manager of ports and Khalifa Industrial Zone (Kizad) in the emirate, has launched the third annual Truck Drivers Safety Campaign to promote safe driving behaviours among port users.

The week-long campaign, titled “Be Aware & Drive with Care”, being held at Khalifa Port from April 24 to 26, and at Zayed Port on April 27 and 28, will impart safe driving tips to around 2,000 people who regularly drive inside the port premises, said a statement from Abu Dhabi Ports.

The campaign in partnership with Borouge, Abu Dhabi Terminals (ADT), and Grand Mills; has the involvement and support of Abu Dhabi Police, Emirates Traffic Safety Society, Emirates Driving Company, National Security Institute, the Department of Transport (Dot), Medeor Hospital, Life Line Hospital (LLH) and Dulsco, it said.

As part of Abu Dhabi Ports’ commitment towards safe port operations to ensure the safety of its staff, customers and visitors; the campaign aims to pre-empt traffic incidents inside the port premises and beyond, it added.

A variety of safety messages and gifts will greet all drivers entering the ports during the campaign. The drivers will have a chance to attend a free-health screening offered by Medeor Hospital and LLH Hospital, and to experience the state-of-the-art driving simulators of Abu Dhabi Ports, and Emirates Driving Company (EDC), said the statement.

Abu Dhabi Police and EDC will organise presentations on safe driving in English, Urdu, Pashtu and Arabic. Free-safety inspections for trucks will be offered by EDC and Abu Dhabi Ports’ Fire Rescue Services at Khalifa Port. EDC’s ‘Roll-over Car’ and ‘Seat Belt Convincer’ will make the participants aware of the importance of wearing seat belt through a simulation experience, it stated.

National Security Institute’s (NSI) Community Safety Simulation Training Trailer will offer guidance on safety and emergency preparedness during the campaign. Borouge and Abu Dhabi Terminals will give tips on forklift safety, it said.

Abu Dhabi Ports’ Health, Safety and Environment (HSE), Grand Mills, Abu Dhabi Terminals and Borouge, will exhibit a series of new induction movies and booklets, which offer tips on risk management across the whole port area

Captain Mohamed Juma Al Shamisi, CEO of Abu Dhabi Ports, said: “This awareness drive is one of the most important events in Abu Dhabi Ports’ calendar as it has already made a positive impact on the road traffic safety standards in our ports. This is part of our proactive approach to ensure the safety of everyone using our port services.”

“The elaborate arrangements and huge resources made available for this campaign highlights our conviction that awareness is the key to safety, which is our top priority,” he added.

Martijn van de Linde, CEO, Abu Dhabi Terminals, said: “With more than a 1,000 trucks and cars entering Khalifa Port Container Terminal on a daily basis, Abu Dhabi Terminals has a strong commitment to keeping the roads safe and foster a safe driving culture.”
